The Irene Tan Liang Kheng Palliative Care Research Fund
The Irene Tan Liang Kheng Palliative Care Research Fund is established to encourage research and education amongst healthcare professionals to advance evidence-based palliative care.
Through this fund, healthcare providers are supported in their aspiration of sharing best practices and ideas in palliative care through innovative research. The funding will not only enable practitioners to better serve patients and caregivers with evidence-based knowledge, but will also increase their understanding of the care challenges for individuals at the end of life. A portion of the fund will also be used towards self-care educational programs for palliative care nurses.
The late Madam Irene Tan Liang Kheng was the main caregiver of her late mother for more than a decade. In that period, she became adept at caring for a physically frail individual. Subsequently, she was also the caregiver to Mr CJ Koh, a family friend and her own husband Mr Ong Tiong Tat. Instead of being burdened with the care for her loved ones, she remained kind and gentle, and continued to lovingly give both her time and money to philanthropic endeavors. Madam Tan passed away in 2016 from cancer.
Her estate aims to elevate the quality of care and comfort for terminally-ill patients through this gift, inspired by her kindness and her desire to continue supporting the sick.
