Summary points:
- In addition to chronic obstructive lung disease, we identified interstitial lung disease, connective tissue disease-related interstitial lung disease and bronchiectasis as chronic lung conditions where prognostic factors for 1-3 year mortality have been studied.
- Prognostic factors in these non-COPD chronic lung diseases spanned ten domains, with older age, lower forced vital capacity and lower carbon monoxide diffusing capacity being the most frequently examined prognostic factors.
- Most of these studies were at a moderate-to-high risk of bias due to limitations in statistical methodology applied, and findings from these studies should be used to prioritise candidate risk factors for further study.
